Bring Your Own Device 2024 Program

As part of our 1:1 Learning program, each student needs to always have access to a technological device at school and at home. This enables communication and collaboration amongst peers and teachers. For Year 7, the College has decided to make Apple laptops compulsory. For Years 8-12, students have the choice of continuing to use Chromebook laptops, or switch to an Apple laptop. Switching from a Chromebook to an Apple laptop is highly encouraged. The minimum requirement for Apple laptops is that they are able to support MacOS Version 12 (MacOS Monterey).

To find if a particular Apple laptop supports Mac OS Version 12 (MacOS Monterey), please check https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT212551 or contact Apple laptop providers.

Years 7

Students in year 7 will only have the option of using an Apple laptop computer. Necessary applications will be provided by the college through online means, including the applications tab on this website. Textbook files can be found on the College's Google site (http://lera.erc.nsw.edu.au). Students will have limited access when using the school internet to promote learning, and prevent distractions from social media, and gaming sites.

Years 8-12

By giving students further options in Years 8-12, they can start to develop a sense of responsibility and ownership for their own personalised learning. Edmund Rice College will provide students with a choice to either utilise their current Chromebook or to use an Apple laptop. As mentioned prior, students in these year groups will be heavily encouraged to switch to an Apple Laptop.
