FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How often should he charge his device?
Students will be expected to charge the device the previous night so that they have a fully charged battery for the following day.
Where will my son store his device during the school day when it is not in use?
During Recess and Lunch times students can choose to use a locker provided by the College or in their bags within a protective case.
How will students transport their device between home and school?
Students will transport their device within their bag to and from the school. We recommend a protective case and/or laptop bag to ensure the device is protected during transport.
Will my son still need to have textbooks and exercise books?
Yes, he will. It is important to note that the device will become an integral part of your son’s comprehensive education alongside printed and handwritten material such as textbooks and exercise books. Students will still need exercise books, as not all work will be completed on the device. We will be providing some of the textbooks in electronic format, but at this stage all schools in Australia are adjusting to such changes, due to the implementation of the new Australian Curriculum.
Will there be consequences for incorrect use of the device?
Yes. The same consequences will apply if the student had misused a school computer or the internet. It is important for your son’s development that he learns to use information communication technologies appropriately and understand the consequences of inappropriate use.
What will happen if my son's device crashes and he loses his work?
Students will predominantly be using Google Drive which stores and saves all work automatically online. Student data can also be stored locally on the device itself.
Will my device be protected from viruses?
The Apple laptops are well known for their in-built virus protection. However, if you wish to have better quality virus protection, we recommend Trend Micro.
If your son is still using a Chromebook, it does not require any virus protection software, so it is generally safe from viruses.
More information on Chromebook virus protection can be found here: https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/3438631?hl=en.
What happens if my device is damaged or stolen?
The owner of the device (parent/carer) is responsible for the costs of any repairs or replacement of the device. We recommend a protective case or sleeve for all devices. The College will not assume any financial responsibility for the repairs or replacement of any device.
If my son accidentally damages his device, how will he do his school work?
The College will provide the student with a device on loan from the IT office.
